Upgrade Your Fall Beauty Routine
Although you may still be thinking about the warm, summer days, fall is finally here… and with the change in the season comes changes in your beauty routine. This weather brings forth chillier days and a new color palette of browns, plums and reds. Great for trying out a new hairstyle or makeup look. With that said, don’t forget that your skincare routine will need to change to adjust to the new climate as well. With all this change, it’s often hard to keep track of it all!
That’s why we’ve compiled an easy list of tips for upgrading your fall skincare, beauty, and hair care routines. Let’s get started!
Skincare
Focus on HYDRATION! Your skin may be prone to dryness as the temperature outside begins to drop and humidity levels decrease. Switch out your light summer moisturizer for a thicker, water-based formula. Your skin will need that extra moisture penetration to keep your skin from flaking. Don’t forget to apply moisturizer both morning and night… and whenever your skin needs it in between!
Prevent stress breakouts! With all the different holidays, fall can be a very stressful time of the year. Whatever the reason, you may need to prevent your skin from breaking out. To prevent breakouts, add a cleanser or moisturizer to your skincare routine.
Hands & Nails
Form a frequent hand and nail care routine. Fall is a great time of year to start making your hands and nails a regular part of your beauty routine, especially if you spent a lot of summer outside in the sun. It is very important to try and protect your hands as much as your face… plus why not have a great set of nails to show off while carving pumpkins, raking leaves, or throwing snowballs. You should choose a hand cream to apply on your hands every night before bed, use cuticle oil and buff your nails weekly and exfoliate your hands.
Hair Care
When in doubt, pamper yourself! Your hair needs moisture just as much as your skin. Fall is the best time to start preparing your hair for the harsh winter winds and weather. Try to deep condition your hair at least once a week with hot oil. This will lock in that moisture and give your hair a glossy shine. Say so long to hot styling tools! When you do use them, use a protective spray or cream to prevent thermal damage. Try sleeping in braids for a beautiful wavy hairstyle the next day. No hot tools required! Also, don’t forget to get your hair trimmed every six weeks to prevent split ends and damaged hair.
Don’t be afraid to experiment with a new hair color! Kiss those highlights goodbye and think about introducing darker, warmer tones to your hair. For blonde hair, think about getting very light highlights on the top of your head and add darker, neutral tones underneath. For brunettes, ask for auburn and gold low and highlights. And for red heads, add a copper or rose gold high and lowlights.
Grow out your brows for a warmer, younger appearance. One of the biggest trends this year has been bold, filled-in eyebrows. Put the tweezers down and let your eyebrows get a little thicker and longer. Use a smudge-free brow pencil to fill them in for an even bolder look.
Makeup
Change your color palette! Fall is a time to experiment with darker colors, especially brown, gold, red and plum. It’s so much fun to adjust your makeup colors to the suit the season. Switch from coral or peach lipstick to darker wine, berry or plum shades. Go for flushed cheeks with blush rather than a sun-kissed glow from bronzer. Also, use chocolate and gold shadows on your eyes. Go for heavy, matte colors at night and soft, shimmery shades during the day.
Clean out your makeup bag to prevent bacteria from growing! Fall is a great time to clean out your makeup bag and make sure everything you have is fresh and hygienic. Don’t forget to clean your makeup brushes and throw away sponges and applicators. Throw away eyeliner and mascara and get new products.
Choose a new foundation. Your skin color will start to lighten as summer fades away. You will need a new foundation that matches your lighter skin tone. You should consider adding a foundation that’s one to two shades lighter to your bag. Since the crisp weather tends to emphasize every crack and flaw in your skin, it may be time to break out your full coverage foundation. Finish your look off with a hydrating setting spray to lock in the moisture and the makeup all day long.
Try a BOLD look! You can create a powerful fall look by just picking one aspect of your face to highlight. Choose between doing a smoky eye or pouty lips, and use light neutral makeup over the rest of your face.
Fall is such an amazing time of the year. We hope that some of these tips inspire you to change up your look this season or at least prepare you for the cooler weather!
